Special Projects
Another function of the Foundation is the development and implementation of community-based special projects.

Our first such venture was the Baby Bags Project, co-sponsored by Soroptimist International. The goals of the Baby Bags Project were to prevent child abuse, reduce the risks to children, and support parents of newborns by providing practical information on local community resources.
The project involved the distribution of canvas tote bags filled with informational brochures on parenting, health and community resources and imprinted with the “KIDS: Instructions for Care” instruction tag (right). The bags were given as a gift for each new baby born at Central Oregon Community Hospital’s Birth and Family Center from April 1, 2002 through March 31, 2004.
This project was later expanded upon through a partnership with the Child Advocacy Center in Medford, OR, through the Tote Bags for Kids Project.
“When I delivered the grant-funded item to the family today, the child’s mother was in tears and so extremely grateful! We all so appreciate your support of this family, and the many others you serve!”
-Hannah F., Public Health Nurse
Publications, Products, and Resource material
The Foundation also develops and produces publications, products and resource materials to assist children with special needs and children at risk of child abuse, as well as their families, teachers, assistants and other caregivers.
One such resource is the “I Am a Child” card. Developed as an educational tool to increase public awareness and understanding of children with special needs, the wallet-sized cards contain the following text:
I am a child.
I may be different from other children you know,
but we are all similar in many ways, too.
I may have disabilities,
but I also have many abilities,
one of which is the ability to feel hurt
when people say or do hurtful things to me.
In the future,
please remember to treat me
and other people with disabilities
as you would treat any other human being:
with consideration of my feelings
and respect for my dignity.
